Cross Stitch Tutorial

Cross stitch introduction

Cross stitch originated in Europe. It first became popular in court and later spread to the public.

Cross stitch can be used for many occasions, such as crafts, home furnishing, decoration, etc., and it can also amuse oneself and reflect personal style.

The basic materials of cross stitch are embroidery thread and special process grid fabric, so long as there are design drawings and basic embroidery methods.

Cross stitch embroidery is very simple. It only needs to cross the grid on the grid fabric according to the design draft.

With hundreds of years of development, embroidery lines of various colors have been numbered, and each pattern has been specially handled by the designer. Every design draft is made according to the line number.

Even if it is a very complicated pattern, it is necessary to select the appropriate thread according to the location of the design draft and do embroidery.

Materials used in cross stitch

cloth

Embroidered cross cloth is a kind of evenly woven fabric. The square on the cloth forms numerous holes, and each small hole is the location of the pin.

At the beginner's stage, we recommend that you choose 11 pieces of cloth with 11 holes and cross stitch per inch.

needle

Since you only need to insert needles into holes without piercing cloth, use blunt needles, which are called embroidery needles.

For most cross stitch embroidery, a 24 embroidery needle is enough.

Line

The use of cross stitch embroidery is the quality of six embroidery thread, it is sold in a bunch of forms on the market.

If you look at the end of the embroidery line, you can clearly see that the embroidery thread is made of six separate strands.

When embroidery is done on cross stitch with 11 holes, you need only three strands in six strands.

pattern

To make it easier for you to grasp, we will draw the pattern on the drawing and explain it in terms of color and symbol.

As indicated by the color index, each square with a color on the pattern represents a stitch that you want to embroider with the specified color.

As long as you count the stitches of the pattern and embroider stitches at the corresponding positions on the cross stitch, you will be able to present all the lovely designs.

Cross stitch embroidery techniques

Preparatory embroidery thread

Please cut the embroidery thread into a section about 50 centimeters, which is the most convenient length for embroidery.

Then, please divide the six strands of embroidery thread into two shares, each three shares.

You only need to hold three strands with your fingers, and then gently pull the embroidery line from the opposite direction.

If the embroidery thread is tightly entangled in embroidery, you can release the needle on your hand and let it hang in the air. The embroidery thread will be untied automatically.

Tightly wrapped embroidery threads will become thinner and difficult to cover properly.

Do not knot embroidery thread!

When you begin to use the first embroidery thread, please reserve an inch long tail at the back of the cloth.

Hold your finger on the end of the thread and start embroidery.

When embroidery is done, the stitch will fix the tail.

After finishing a embroidery line, it is necessary to cut through the stitches through the stitches, and cut the remaining lines.

To use the new embroidery thread, please place the needle and thread through the bottom of several stitches near the place where the embroidery starts again.

Do not cross from one area to another.

The embroidery line behind the cloth, especially the darker one, will appear on the front side of the cloth. So please finish one area first and then start another one.

How to embroider cross stitch by hand

Please pass three strands of coffee embroidery thread through the needle eye.

Find out the central position of the pattern design (part of the loop).

Now, fold the four sides of the embroidery with the cross cloth, and find out the center point of the cloth.

Count 12 grids from the center point of the cloth, then count two squares to the right.

You can start to embroider little bear's ears from this position.

On the back of the cross cloth, pull the embroidery needle through the A hole (refer to figure 1), then insert the B hole and pull out the D hole from the C hole.

In the same way, continue to embroider half a cross (from E to F).

After that, you can complete the other half of the cross stitch (please refer to figure 2).

In the G position on the back of the cross cloth, pull the embroidery needle out of the D, then pull it out from E and insert B, then pull out H from C.

In this way, you have completed the first line of embroidery!

Now, move down one line, count the number of needle steps, and begin to embroider second rows in the position of I.

Please follow the instructions carefully according to the location and color of stitches.

Continue to complete each row in the above way, first embroidering a diagonal step on the cross stitch, then add another step on it.

In order to make the effect more uniform and beautiful, all cross needles should be embroidered in the same direction.

With such a simple step, you can create beautiful and creative cross stitch embroidery.

In the beginner's stage, we will provide you with free design patterns and learn the cute cubs shown below.

Please pick up embroidery thread and cloth at your close friend's embroidery shop.

Once you find that cross stitch embroidery is so simple and fun, you can try more complicated designs.
