On Tuesday, Armenia's minister of economic affairs, Karen, discussed the development of light industry with representatives of the domestic light industry. He said that Armenia or Russia could set up a wholesale market for light industrial products.

Gagik, the person in charge of LUX shoe factory, gave the proposal, hoping to help promote the export of Armenia manufacturing enterprises.

We can sell about 1 million pairs in the Russian market.

But our export volume is only 100 thousand pairs, Gagik added.

Russian market

The demand for leather goods and textiles is high.

Selling products on a platform in Armenia helps export, ensures product distribution in Russia, and reduces the logistics cost of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Minister of Economics said that Armenia's products were made of natural leather, both competitive in quality and price.

According to Armenia Federation of domestic commodity manufacturers, Armenia imports about 4000 tons of leather every year.

Karen also mentioned that because of the tariff on leather imports, the country's shoes output is 5 million pairs a year, but in 1990, Armenia produced 18 million pairs of shoes a year.

Last week, at the seminar on leather industry held by local enterprises in Botswana, Dr. Chandra Babu, a leading scientist from the India central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), revealed that according to Botswana's production capacity, 10 thousand jobs could be created to meet the local demand for leather and create a total export revenue of $150 million for the country.

In order to promote the development of leather industry in Botswana, the India enterprise organization has invited experts from Beijing to conduct an investigation and analysis of the leather industry in order to establish a leather industrial park.

India Leather Research Center needs to study the feasibility of establishing a leather industrial park in accordance with the investment budget of 4 million pra.

In September this year, the two sides reached agreement on the leather industry in Botswana.

The study is expected to end in December, and submit an evaluation report on industry issues, as well as comments on whether the construction of leather industrial parks can be rewarded.

CLRI will use this workshop to collect relevant information.

At the meeting, Babu expressed concern about a series of problems such as lack of technology in the leather industry of the country.

He suggested that the export of raw leather should be restricted by higher tariffs, and he called for concentrated efforts to effectively purchase raw leather to ensure the supply of raw materials after the completion of the leather industrial park.

Because of the potential of the leather industry to explore, it can promote the country's economic development and improve the current situation of poverty.

Botswana already has abundant resources of live cattle, but the cowhide has been exported to other countries without adding any additional value.

The 2008 study showed that Botswana paid 151 million PRA for leather and leather products.
