HRSu Dongpo EffectWorkplace

Poet Su Dongpo's two poems: "do not know the true colors of Mount Lu, only in the mountains."

That is to say, people often find it difficult to get a correct understanding of the "self" as if they are in their own hands. In a sense, understanding themselves is more difficult than understanding the objective reality.

Therefore, "people are valuable and have self-knowledge".

Social psychologists call it the "Su Dongpo effect".

An American psychologist has done an experiment to prove that people are easy to raise themselves.

He found 25 people who were old acquaintances, so they had a better understanding of their merits and demerits.

The experimenters asked each of them to rank themselves according to the 9 criteria: elegance, humor, intelligence, communication, hygiene, beauty, arrogance, snobbery and rudeness.

For example, according to the elegant standard, who is the most elegant and ranked first, followed by second...

With rudeness as the standard, who is the most rude and ranked first, followed by second.

That is to say, each person has to evaluate himself and 24 other people, so that every person has a self evaluation in every aspect and 24 others' evaluation.

After statistical analysis, it is found that these 25 individuals tend to exaggerate their strengths and hide their shortcomings in varying degrees.

For example, a person who thinks he is elegant should be among the best. However, the average number of other 24 people in this field is average, and his "elegance" is only twenty.

There is also a person who has made an advance of 5 places in his "cleanliness" quality than the average ranking he gave him. He has made an advance of 6 in terms of "intelligence" and "beauty", while his rating of "snobbish", "arrogant" and "rude" has been lower than others. His ranking has dropped by 6 compared with others.

Our good quality

Self evaluation

Often higher than others' estimation, self evaluation of bad quality is often lower than others' estimate, that is to say, we are more likely to raise ourselves.

Knowing this, we can understand why we should be modest and prudent and guard against arrogance and impetuosity.

This is actually to overcome our tendency to raise and beautify ourselves consciously or unconsciously, so that we can evaluate ourselves more scientifically, objectively and fairly.

Of course, the humility and prudence here does not mean that we should arbitrarily belittle ourselves and consider ourselves unable to do so.

"People are valuable and have self-knowledge" is to see their own shortcomings and to see their own strengths so that they can learn from and work well to avoid weaknesses and achieve good results.

A person's self-evaluation is not formed naturally in the closed self consciousness, but in the contact with all kinds of people around it, paying attention to their attitude towards themselves, imagining their evaluation of themselves, and taking it as a material, taking it as a material.

Objective criteria

Internalize your own mind and form a self image.

It can be seen that many of the self-evaluation is also a reflection of the society's evaluation of oneself.

In enterprises, examination provides employees with opportunities for self-evaluation and promotion.

In the process of assessment, the actual performance of the staff is inspecting and appraised by the superior supervisor. After the interview or other channels, the results are returned to the employees being assessed and their employees' opinions are heard.

In this way, the examination provides the conditions for communication between the upper and lower levels, so that each other can understand each other's expectations, further achieve mutual understanding on the work performance, and increase the motivation of the employees to complete their work tasks by establishing a common recognition of behavior and performance goals.

It seems that effective communication is very effective in improving the objectivity of self-evaluation.
